The various codes below are used for brevity to get a message over quickly. They can be used in the form of a question or used in an answer, ie What is your QTH? My QTH is....

Q codes

Q codes or signals were around a long long time before CB. Nowadays they are more used by Amateur radio operators but some can occasionally be heard on CB.


QRA - What is the name of your station?
QRG - What is my exact frequency?
QRH - Does my frequency vary?
QRI - How is my tone?
QRK - What is my signal intellegibility?
QRL - Are you busy?
QRM - Is my transmission being interfered with?
QRN - Are you troubled by static?
QRO - Increase power high power
QRP - Decrease power low power
QRQ - Shall I send faster?
QRS - Send more slowly?
QRT - Stop sending?
QRU - Have you anything for me?
QRV - Are you ready?
QRW - Shall I tell (enter name) you are calling him?
QRX - When will you call again?
QRZ - Who is calling me?
QSA - What is my signal strength?
QSB - Are my signals fading?
QSD - Is my keying defective?
QSG - Shall I send___messages at a time?
QSK - Can I join the conversation break in?
QSL - Can you acknowledge receipt?
QSM - Shall I repeat the last message sent?
QSO - Communicate, contact
QSP - Will you relay to ___?
QSV - Shall I send a series of V's?
QSW - Will you transmit on ___?
QSX - Will you listen for ___on ___?
QSY - Shall I change frequency?
QSZ - Shall I send each word/group more than once?
QTA - Shall I cancel number?
QTB - Do you agree with my word count?
QTC - How many messages have you to send?
QTH - What is your location?
QTR - What is your time?
QTV - Shall I stand guard for you ?
QTX - Will you keep your station open for further communication with me?
QUA - Have you news of ___?

10 codes:

The 10 codes, as short as they are are often shortened further in use. Therefore when asking someone their location, rather than saying 10-20, it is shortened to "what's your 20?" This is just a few of the more common ones.

10-1 Receiving Poorly "you're a bit 10-1"
10-4 Message received
10-7 Out of Service, or going off air.
10-8 In Service, back on air
10-9 Please repeat "Give me a nine on that?"
10-10 Transmission Completed, standing by
10-20 Location, "What's your 20?"
10-100 Toilet break, "I'm going 10-100"
